Government Relations & Advocacy

With over 600 member hotels representing over 60,000 employees and 80,000 rooms contributing in excess of $3.2 Billion in revenue, the hotel industry’s value to the hospitality sector, the tourism industry, and the BC economy is significant.

The BCHA works with the government and regulatory authorities to ensure a positive operating environment for the hotel industry to thrive in, particularly during economically challenging times.

As the voice of the hotel industry at the Federal, Provincial & Community level, the BCHA is acknowledged as the champion of hotel related issues, including matters of taxation, tourism, marketing, corporate relations, labour, and consumer services.

Alliance of Beverage Licensees

Members of the BC Hotel Association also benefit from membership with the Alliance of Beverage Licensees (ABLE BC).  ABLE BC is the voice for all liquor primary and retail store licensees in BC.  As a member, you enjoy additional key industry information and access to ABLE BC’s business tools and resources.  Click here to visit ABLE BC.

Human Industrial Relations

BCHA Members have access to labour relations expertise through Human Industrial Relations (HIR).

HIR originated as an arm of the British Columbia Hotel’s Association (BCHA).  Its role was solely focused on acting as the bargaining agent for BCHA members in collective agreement negotiations. In 1987, HIR was incorporated as a society and has since been committed to helping businesses in the hospitality sector maintain great labour relations with their employees and unions. Today HIR serves its members through collective agreement negotiation, advice and guidance on all aspects of collective agreement administration, education seminars, advocacy at the Labour Relations Board, grievance procedures, and arbitration hearings.
